Wednesday 20th November 2013

A typical day on Ecotraining’s navigation and orientation course:

04.00 – wake up, check back pack and add water (plus spare water) then it’s tea and rusks in the lecture room.

05.00 – 09.30 – driven south in the reserve towards the fence line and dropped off. Rotated as lead rifle as we headed back to camp.

10.00 – breakfast

10.30 – 11.30 – lecture on ‘other means of navigation’

11.30 – 12.30 – revision ahead of next weeks final exam to the smell of gun oil as the rifles are cleaned.

12.30 – 14.00 – fitness session and recovery.

14.00 – 14.30 – revision

14.30 – 15.00 – lunch

15.00 – 15.30 – revision

15.45 – 18.15 – bush walk to the top of the kopje (hill) north of camp. Took some time up there to watch the sun set.

19.15 – Braai for dinner. No revision tonight, a few beers instead.

20.30 – off to bed, shattered after another long but enjoyable day.
