‘Killer’ rhino poaching facts

8th July 2013

I didn’t do the anti-rhino poaching cause any justice when I was asked about it at the weekend.

It wasn’t that I didn’t talk passionately about the plight of rhinos in Africa, it was more that I couldn’t rattle off the jaw dropping stats.

Next time I’m asked, quite literally the ‘killer’ numbers are:

* In 2007 there were 13 rhinos poached.
* In 2012 it was 668.
* This year it’s estimated to pass 800.

If poaching continues at this rate, rhinos will be extinct in the wild within 15 years.
